Last Sunday, I drove to St. Louis to drop off a car to my daughter who attends Wash. U.. The drive as I approach the city from the east takes me past the Edwardsville exit which always reminds of the XU club gridders playing there in the past. I get wistful about Xavier football; and I started to wonder what ever happened to the SIUE team. My recent views of the NCFA website no longer showed SIUE with Miami, Wright St. , Ohio S. et al in the Midwest division. I imagined SIUE went the way X did with its club team, Tonight, I noticed on the NCFA that SIUE was joining the NCFA (National Club Football Association)for the 2018 season. I was curious at to what was going on with SIUE club football; and I went to the team's site. SIEU football played the 2017 season going 2-7 with wins in their last two games. They lost a 20-0 game to Wright St. at SIEU for homecoming but beat Loyola Chicago's club team. Apparently, they were an independent this past fall as I didn't recognize most of the teams they played. The team photo showed 20 players; and the roster listed just 23. I recognize the difficulties the X club team had with numbers, injuries, etc..
Dang, I'd like to give it another shot because even with Xavier's OT win tonight over Georgetown (which has a football team), I love Muskie football and hope springs eternal!
