RIP Irv Etler

From Xavierhoops.com - Irv Etler, X's last NCAA football coach passed away earlier this week. I know he stayed in touch over the years with a lot of his players, and it was always a great point of pride for him.  Funeral information is here.

Etler qb'd at Xavier in the late fifties and I have vague recollections of seeing him play at Xavier stadium. I believe Larry Cox was a running back in Etler's backfield and, as a kid, I recall a spring game sitting on the Xavier bench when Cox scored a TD running right by my brothers and me. Etler was calling the signals.

Etler, however, was not X's last coach. Tom Cecchini was head coach in the final 1973 season.

In any event, it is a sad moment. God rest his soul.

I didn't think Irv was the last coach, but that's what was in the obit.  Still, a sad day.
