Football and All for One Outing
« on: June 13, 2023, 05:32:27 PM »
Over on Xavierhoops, MasterofReality (MOR) indicated that he had attended the All for One golf outing. I queried MOR as to whether there had been any discussion of football to which he replied ?None?. Another poster indicated that football was dead-in-the-water. MOR then indicated that it was placed on the back burner but MOR agreed financing presumably for a stadium was a problem with a lack of donors stepping forward.

Hard to say if this is a deal breaker but if the $20 million projected price tag holds, I guess it could well be. The school apparently is planning to build stands for soccer at Corcoran Field. I cannot imagine that it would take that much to throw up.som3 concrete stands reminiscent of the old stadium but with a half or third of the 15,000 seat capacity. Plenty of schools use football fields as soccer stadiums as well. Seems to be one way of PFL football on campus without breaking the bank as Xavier continues to search for ways to attract males to enroll.

As an aside, a sibling of mine spoke to someone over the weekend deeply involved with Xavier athletics who said the Board of Trustees is looking at a vote in December but indeed money is an issue with the school looking for donors but also being concerned at getting the med school opened by 2027. This seems consistent with Greg Christopher?s comments in the Business Courier article but it is a bit disheartening as in two months, the school seems no closer to a yes vote.

I hope things change favorably for football as I think the addition of the med school will not solve the male enrollment problem.

I was at a Father Finn Society dinner last week. Dr. Hanycz spoke for a few minutes. Football was not mentioned, though the medical school was, albeit briefly. She is very impressive.
